UNITE HERE
Boycott Announcement
UNITE
HERE is calling for a national boycott
of specific Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, Intercontental,
Zen, and Starwood properties, in addition to the
9 union hotels that are currently being boycotted
in LA.
These
corporations want to impose health care reductions,
greater workloads, pension cuts, and stagnant
wages. Some workers were locked out in Los Angeles
for over a month, and over 4000 workers were locked
out for 8 weeks in San Francisco, and thousands
of workers have worked without a contract while
the hotels have used intimidation and harassment
to attempt to force the workers to back down from
their demands. Hotel workers are some of the worst
paid workers in the U.S with housekeeping being
one of the country's most unsafe jobs.
The
workers are asking for:
- Livable
Wages
- Humane
Workloads
- Employer-paid
health insurance
- Protections
for immigrant workers
- Access
to hotel jobs for the African-American Community
- A
contract expiration that will help raise the
national standard
