Contract Vote on
"Last Best Offer" From Hotels

Overwhelmingly Rejected by 92% of Workers
July 1, 2004

Over 2,000 Los Angeles hotel workers voted on the Hotel Employer Council's "last best" contract offer. It was overwhelmingly rejected by 92% of workers. In addition to wages, benefits and pensions, a key sticking point is the length of the new contract. The hotels want a five-year contract but workers want a two-year contract to line themselves up with ten other cities so they can leverage their strength to negotiate with the big corporations.

The Big Picture
Why the Hotel Workers' Struggle Matters to You
The hotel workers' struggle is critically important. Collective bargaining is democracy in action at a time when America needs it most. We live in an era where corporations have more control over our lives and rarely do ordinary people have an opportunity to come together and shape the big decisions that impact their lives and indirectly affect all of us. Blue collar, white collar or no collar or at all, everyone has a stake in defending workers' rights. More
