Hotel Union Calls for Boycott of 9 Hotels
Reuters - November 11, 2004
Los
Angeles hotel workers Wednesday called for a boycott of nine
luxury hotels as contentious labor contract talks continue.
The
Unite Here union said elected officials, community groups
and clergy have vowed to honor the request to avoid eating,
meeting or sleeping at targeted hotels.
Hotels
affected by the boycott are the Millennium Biltmore, Bonaventure,
Hyatt Regency, Wilshire Grand, Regent Beverly Wilshire, Century
Plaza, St. Regis, Hyatt West Hollywood, and the Sheraton Universal.
San
Francisco hotels locked out about 4,000 workers after the
Unite Here union ended a two-week strike last month - a decision
that escalated a contract conflict seen as a bellwether for
the industry.
The
San Francisco hotel group includes properties from brands
operated by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Fairmont
Hotels & Resorts, Four Seasons Hotels, Hyatt, Intercontinental
Hotels Group, Hilton Hotels and Omni Hotels.
