ASC
Search Is On For Ceremony Spot

The
American Society of Cinematographers has drawn up a short
list of potential venues for its annual awards ceremony in
its quest for an alternative to the Century Plaza Hotel in
Century City, which is engaged in a protracted contract dispute.
"We're
hard on the case, but the holidays are complicating matters,"
ASC president Richard Crudo said. "Right now, it looks
like Hollywood & Highland, the Hollywood Palladium and
the Beverly Hilton have space. But we won't know for sure
until after Jan. 3."
Crudo
said the ASC is extending its search because the likelihood
of a resolution between the Century Plaza and nine other Los
Angeles-area hotels with Unite Here Local 11 representing
3,000 hotel workers is "not good."
The
DGA said it was moving its Jan. 29 show to the Beverly Hilton
days after the Producers Guild of America moved its awards
show to Culver Studios (HR 12/15). The WGA West also has said
that it is considering the use of other venues.
The
hotels and workers have sparred throughout the summer over
salary, health care and pension issues.
