"Banquet
In The Streets" Highlights Impact
Of Hotel Boycott As Dispute Reaches
One Year Mark:
Symbolizing
the growing impact of the
boycott against eight luxury hotels
in Los Angeles, hundreds of residents,
community leaders and elected officials
recently staged a "Banquet in
the Streets" outside the Century
Plaza Hotel. The event marked the
one year anniversary of the contract
dispute involving more than 2,500
workers. "L.A.'s tourism industry
relies on the hard work of hotel employees,"
said City Councilmember Eric Garcetti.
"Until these men and women receive
a fair contract with living wages
and decent benefits, I will respect
the boycott." More

Why
the Hotel Workers' Struggle
Matters to You
|
The
hotel workers' struggle is critically
important. Collective bargaining
is democracy in action at a
time when America needs it most.
We live in an era where corporations
have more control over our lives
and rarely do ordinary people
have an opportunity to come
together and shape the big decisions
that impact their lives and
indirectly affect all of us.
Blue collar, white collar or
no collar or at all, everyone
has a stake in defending workers'
rights. More
