 When
I started, we had a diverse workforce, an even distribution
of African Americans, whites and Latinos. Now it's
totally different. Management knew that if they
hired African Americans they would encounter more
resistance, while the Latinos would often be too
afraid to speak out because they didn't want to
be deported or because they just didn't know their
rights. Our civil rights blood would boil if they
treated us like they did the Latinos. Now we all
know our rights and are fighting together to open
up more opportunities for young African Americans
to find good jobs in union hotels. |
